Bogen/Manfrotto 3021 Tripod ReviewI received my Bogen/Manfrotto 3021BN tripod today from B&H, so I thought I'd share my impressions. The 3021 is Bogen's standard tripod. It's bigger than the 3001, but not enormous enough to make carrying it around a pain. The model I got has the additional features of snap lock leg releases (instead of wing nuts) and a low angle adaptor that lets you replace the center column, getting the head about 5 inches from the ground. I stand 5'10", and with the 3030 quick release panhead installed, I have to bend only slightly to look through the viewfinder of my Leica M6. This is very important to my often times achy back. The tripod only has two leg sections, which makes it very sturdy. It's total overkill for a Leica, but then again, with a light camera, it pays to have a heavy tripod. The quick release leg locks are very positive and easy to use, you just have to be careful not to get your fingers caught in them (as I managed to do already... trust me, it hurts). Overall, I'm very pleased. I can easily see why the 3021 has earned the reputation as the workhorse of the Bogen line, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. At only a little over $100 for the black model with the added features of the low angle adaptor and quick release leg locks, it's a bargain in the tripod world.
